4 Ways to Naturally Detox the Body of Toxins, Waste, and Heavy Metals

As we go on with daily life, we don’t realize how much toxins we are consuming over time. Some of the time its avoidable and other times, it’s inevitable. They’re in the air that surrounds us, and in the water we drink. Letting it all build up may cause some issues to the body; but luckily, they’re MANY ways to flush them out naturally!

Fortunately, the body already comes with a detoxification process/system it’s just our job to support it! By having a healthy lifestyle, you are already assisting with the removal of the toxins.

Detoxing doesn’t have to be super fancy or extreme especially if you are just starting out. There are simple practices that you can start out with, then build your way up.

SIGNS INDICATING YOUR BODY NEEDS A DETOX

If you’re not sure if a full body detox is what your body needs, there are many symptoms that will let you know your body needs to be flushed of toxins.

  • Feeling sluggish/fatigue on a regular basis
  • Brain fog. Difficulty concentration/focusing
  • Weight fluctuation
  • Constant infections
  • Digestive problems. If unregulated, it can lead to constipation, bloating, and gas
  • Body/face acne

If any of the following symptom sound and/or feel familiar, a detox may be necessary.

Here are a few effective ways to detoxify your body naturally:

  1. Focus on a Healthy Diet

Prioritizing a healthy diet is a great way to start and cleanse your body; being that toxins are usually found in specific foods.

Processed foods, fast food, and refined sugar are the big three. Once you slowly leaned away from this food and replace them with organic whole foods (these foods will support the natural detoxification process), your body will thank you!

Foods to incorporate into your diet:

  • Greens. Spinach, Kale, Cucumbers, Wheatgrass, Green Apples.

Tip: To make it easier to consume your greens on daily basis, try combining all ingredients together for a morning smoothie!

  • High Fiber Foods. Avocados, Beans, Brown Rice, Beets, Apples (along with the peel), Guava, Dark-colored Vegetables, Sweet potatoes.
  • Fermented Foods. These are probiotic foods that provides a source of B-vitamins and omega-3. Some of the common foods include Kimchi, Sauerkraut, Yogurt, Miso, Garlic*, Tempeh, Cauliflower, and Kombucha. There is much more fermented food to include in your diet, these are just help you get started!

*Garlic is my personal favorite, simple because it is very easy to incorporate it into most foods.

2. Hydrate

Hydration is the most important thing! Drinking water helps eliminate waste in your kidneys and keep thing flowing throughout the body. The proper amount of water consumption should be at least 2 liters or 8 cups a day.

To get more hydration out of your water intake, you can add a pinch of Himalayan Pink Salt into your water. You can also squeeze a half of lemon into your water or a cap full of apple cider vinegar to get expedite the detox process.

Herbal Teas are really great for you as well:

  • Ginger Tea. Anti-Inflammatory and helps with digestion.
  • Green Tea. Promotes hydration and naturally boost energy levels. Great alternative of coffee!

Tip: Add freshly squeezed lemon and apple cider vinegar to warm water for more benefits. Especially in the mornings!

3. Manage Your Stress

It’s imperative that your nervous system is regulated in order to detox properly and successfully. Of course, life comes with all types of stress. Big or small.

The most important thing is to try our best to control or reduce it. Being that high amounts of stress causes your cortisol levels to spike, leading to a bunch of different avenues of problems, it may be the main thing holding you back.

So here are a few relaxation methods I love that naturally calms the body and reduces your stress:

  • Yoga. The movements help with the digestive system
  • Sauna Sessions. Sweat it out. Sauna supports the removal of stress and toxins.
  • Meditation. Helps relax the body and calms the nervous system

And just a reminder to make sure you get a good amount of sleep each night as well. 7-9 hours each night!

*Alcohol and caffeine are natural stressors to the body. Try and cut back or on foods and drink that contain the two, if possible.

4. Fasting

Fasting is a bit of a controversial topic. I think it all depends on the type of fasting you try and what your body can handle. As always, it’s important to consult with your doctor and see what they recommend.

Because there are options, you can decide based on your own personally goal. Some of the fasts that I’ve personally tried are:

  • Intermittent Fasting. Creating an eating pattern where you give yourself specific times to eat and to not eat. For example, fasting until 12 noon, eating between 12PM-6PM, then going back to fasting. Doing that each day.
  • Liquid Fasting. Consuming only water, herbal teas, and fruits and vegetable juice. It’s more effective if you’re juicing your produce yourself. I know it’s time consuming but it’s a small sacrifice for a major reward!

When it comes to fasting, it’s a tough practice to following. Remember “mind over matter” will help you get through it. If your new to fasting, take it easy on yourself and your body. Start of trying it every once in a while, then once a month, and then maybe once a week!

Same thing with every other process design to cleanse the body, it’s something you have to be willing to learn. Everyone’s journey is different, but you will all get there if you listen to your body and give it what it needs. I wish you all the best of luck on your venture to a healthier lifestyle!
